Street-Facing Fence Stabilization With New 6×6 Support Posts

A sagging fence line is usually a sign the posts are drifting out of plumb and the load is no longer being carried correctly. For this street-facing section near the intersection, we kept the existing fence look intact and reinforced the structure from behind the scenes. We braced the line, excavated for proper footings, set new 6×6 pressure-treated posts in concrete beside the existing posts, and tied everything together with structural fasteners for long-term stability.

Before

  • The fence line was sagging through the middle, with the middle post and corner post near the tree starting to lean.
  • The street-facing section needed a fix that wouldn’t mean replacing the full fence.
  • Because the area is visible from the street and exposed to weather, the repair needed to be structural, not cosmetic.

What We Did

  • Secure & Brace: Installed temporary bracing on the yard side to hold the sagging middle post and corner post plumb while we worked.
  • Deep Excavation: Dug deep on the street side beside the designated posts to create proper footings with minimal impact to the surrounding area.
  • Heavy-Duty Reinforcement: Installed two new 6×6 pressure-treated posts adjacent to the existing posts and set them in concrete for load-bearing support.
  • Anchor & Release: Secured the existing posts to the new 6×6 supports using GRK Timber screws, removed bracing, and cleaned up.

  • The fence line was brought back into alignment and properly supported with new load-bearing posts.
  • The fix preserved the existing fence appearance while adding serious strength behind it.
  • The street-facing section is now far more resistant to future leaning and seasonal movement.
  • The yard was left clean and ready to use the same day.
